Well, it’s Friday. I haven’t written anything in…a while.
And I have nothing to do for a half hour before we have office yoga. (Side
note: like my job isn’t already awesome enough as it is, we have yoga every
week on the top floor of my office…) Let’s see…
1)
I was in the hospital a week ago. It sucked.
Until they gave me morphine and an anti-nausea drug that’s apparently so strong
its intended use is for chemo patients. Things got a little hazy from there on
out…
Yeah, ew…
2)
Diagnosis: “stomach virus.” Literally, the only solid
food I’ve eaten since last Sunday is about a dozen of my roommate’s homemade
Thin Mints. (Yes. She makes – from scratch – Thin Mints and Samoas. I will
never, ever achieve that status of
womanhood.)
Now, I am not one of those girls who loses her appetite. Like, ever. I could
have the flu and still down three grilled cheese sandwiches. So, this is
actually pretty exciting for me. I finally fit back into my skinny jeans! I mean,
I realize I should be concerned about dropping from a size 6 to a size 2 in a
week, but I think I’ll worry about it when I find out I actually have some
terminal illness at my annual exam on Monday. For now, yay!
3)
Speaking of terminal illnesses, I finally saw 50/50. You know, that cancer movie starring
my childhood crush, Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The movie was 99 minutes long. I
sobbed – and I mean SOBBED – for no less than 94 minutes of it. It was
technically a comedy, supposedly. I clearly did not receive this
memo. Nonetheless, it was like, the best movie ever. Even though my eyes were
so puffed up afterwards that I couldn’t see anything. A-n-y-t-h-i-n-g. Needless
to say, a bar was the next destination. Needless to say, one day there will be
a movie about my worn-out, smelly shoe of a liver.
4)
I have new Prada glasses. Yay!
Bad picture. Darn it.
5)
I celebrated the five-year anniversary (October
22, 2006) of my initiation into Alpha Phi by attending this fall’s initiation
ceremony with my darling Little Sister, Mary, also an alumna as of last year.
Gosh, I’m getting old. I am the ultimate Mama Bear. (See below – and that’s
missing quite a few girls.)
6)
What was I for my favorite holiday of all time,
you ask? (That holiday would be Halloween, for those of you not in the know…) A…Freudian
slip! Well, for the first half of Saturday, I was Holly Golightly (please see
below).
(Not a hickey on my neck. I was just itchy from where the pretty necklace was.)
And then the wine caught up to me (again,
see below) and creating the Freudian slip (which, sadly, I don’t have any
pictures of) was too fun not to do. So I hunkered down with my roommate,
happily guzzling more happy juice, and set to the task of writing things like “Oedipus
Complex,” “Penis Envy,” “Superego,” et al with a Rub-a-Dub marker on a
(tasteful) white lace-trimmed slip.
7)
I am apparently the card-giving fairy. In the
last 24 hours, I’ve given a welcome card to our new Director of Publications, a
thank-you card to the glasses place because everyone there was just so sweet, and a ridiculously belated
birthday card to my father (who turned the big ol’ 8-0 in September). Strictly
the fancy Papyrus brand stuff – no Hallmark (blech – only to be used in a
serious pinch). Oh yeah, and I gave Happy National Boss’s Day cards to my
supervisor and her supervisor on October 16th. Who the hell knew
there was a National Boss’s Day? I did. That’s right. There’s also a Plan Your
Epitaph Day. Still working on that one…
8)
How could I forget? I’m going to have to take “drug-addicted”
off the list of adjectives to describe myself. Apparently, I got the very last
little bit of Adderall left in the D.C. Metropolitan Area. I called no less
than 23 pharmacies before I found one that even had it in stock. Yes, 23. So, I
guess I’m going to have to learn how to wean myself off of speed. This will not
be fun. Or pretty. I plan to be catatonic. Expect no blog-writing. Like you
always do. J
Oh, how I love you, Dr. House...
xoxo,
Elizabeth Alida

I'd been wondering about you....totally dig the glasses. - Dwayne
ReplyDeleteI saw 50/50 about a month before it was released and was very impressed with it. I told people to pay full price for it, it is that good. Levitt will get nominated (not saying he will win, need to see who he is up against). I saw "J. Edgar" last night (comes out a week from today) and Leonardo will get nominated as well. 50/50 was screening in DC as far back as May of this year. That is a good sign generally speaking that the studio has confidence in it.
ReplyDelete"check liver light" haha story of my life! PS we need to be classy and get drinks very soon :) I'm graduating in the spring and I need some real-world intake and advise!
